Shillong, Mar 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said that the National People’s Party (NPP) will fight the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on its own terms.
“NPP has always maintained its ideology and identity and has always fought its elections on its own terms,” he told reporters. Sangma, who is also the NPP national president, made it clear that the NPP’s stand has always been to maintain its own identity and own ideology.
“We will have no pre-poll alliances with any political party,” he said.
On Tuesday’s meeting with BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, the NPP national president said that the meeting was to pass on the message to them (BJP) and tell them that the NPP’s identity has to be respected,“...and we will contest in the seats where we feel is appropriate,” Conrad said.
About rumours doing the rounds that he may contest from the Tura Lok Sabha seat against Congress nominee Dr Mukul Sangma, the NPP national president declined to give a direct reply.
Expressing confidence that people have complete faith in the party, its candidates, and the leadership, Sangma said,“We are very confident that we will win the seat no matter who the candidate is." UNI
