Ranikor, Meghalaya, Aug 10: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) President, Conrad K. Sangma today launched his campaign for former Congress legislator-turned NPP candidate Martin Danggo here in South West Khasi Hills. Over 3000 people attended the rally. Different communities presented colourful cultural items to enthrall the crowd. The bye-election to Ranikor assembly constituency will be held on August 23.
Speaking at the rally, Conrad K. Sangma said, “My late father P. A. Sangma had concerns for the people of Ranikor constituency. He had said that if we are given an opportunity, we should do something for the people. I feel privilege that people of Meghalaya gave us the mandate and we were able to do something for the welfare of Ranikor.”
Danggo sat with the crowd, which was addressed by Industries Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar amongst others.
Praising Danggo, who quit the Congress party to re-contest byelection, Sangma said, “He (Danggo) has sacrificed his post for the people of Ranikor constituency. He did not resign for his own interest but because he was concern for the people and wanted to fulfill the aspirations of the people.”
The NPP leader also urged the public to give a befitting response to Martin Danggo and ensure that he gets the biggest mandate of the people.
He took a dig at former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma at the rally for misuse of central funds, which had derailed development in the State.
“We have been able to reverse the trend and ensure that we serve the people. NPP is in the ruling side, I am confident that people of Ranikor will vote for the ruling party and reelect Martin Danggo to represent the people. Don’t be mislead and vote without any fear,” he added. (UNI)
