Mother, daughter from Delhi found Covid 19 positive in Manipur, Seven active cases so far

Agency News

Imphal, May 19 : Mother and daughter who came back from New Delhi were reported Covid 19 positive today. Manipur has now seven active cases and nine total cases. Manipur was declared free after two patients were reported negative.

After the return of stranded people seven new cases were detected so far. Almost all the new cases were health workers or had visited hospitals for medical treatment. Non issuance of protective equipment to the doctors and nurses have reportedly led to the rise in numbers of Covid 19 cases among health workers. A 64 year old woman and her 23 year old daughter from Kamjong district who went to New AIIMS, New Delhi for treatment had come back with 20 others in a bus on May 16 and were kept at IIIT Mantripukhri quarantine centre. Tests were done at RIMS and were found positive. Both were kept at Isolation ward and were asymptomatic.

All the other passengers will also be tested. Manipur was Covid 19 free from April 14 last after all the two patients were declared free from the virus. The first case was a 23 year old girl who came back from the UK while the second case had attended the Nizamuddin Markaz. With thousands of people coming to the state by special trains, buses and private cars the government has intensified activities to stop the spread of the virus. (UNI)
