Minister announces honorarium hike for Anganwadi workers

Imphal, May 14 : Manipur Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen today announced that honorarium for Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs) and Mini Anganwadi workers will be hiked and Performance linked Incentive to Anganwadi helpers under Anganwadi Services (Umbrella Integrated Child Development Services), (ICDS) Scheme under Social Welfare Department, Manipur w.e.f from October 1, 2018.

The minister informed that the honorarium for Anganwadi workers will be increased from Rs 3,000 per month to Rs 4,500 per month. For Anganwadi workers at mini-centres and Anganwadi helpers, it has been hiked from Rs 2,250 to Rs 3,500 and Rs 1,500 to Rs2,250, respectively. There will be Rs 250 performance link incentive per month for AWHs for facilitating proper functioning of Anganwadi Centres. She said various important welfare programmes and services were being initiated by them at grassroots level. Ms Nemcha expressed happiness over the increase of honorarium for Anganwadi functionaries. They contribute greatly for the welfare of all the Anganwadi beneficiaries and also in the socio-economic progress of the State.

As per the reports of the Social Welfare Department, there are 11,510 Anganwadi centres in Manipur, out of which 9958 are Main Anganwadi Centres and 1552 are Mini Anganwadi Centres. It may be mentioned that Anganwadi workers/helpers fall under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme administered by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD). (UNI)
