Imphal, Jan 29 : Series of stirs affect life in Manipur today on the issue of the Citizenship Bill.
Women vendors today closed down their shops and staged a sit in protest at the women's market, Khwairamband Keithel. Most of the shops in the city remained closed. About 64 organisations representing all sections of people and from parts of the state have also formed ‘Manipur People Against Citizenship Amendment Bill’ (MPACAB).
After a day long discussion on Monday it was decided to impose a state wide 24-hour general strike from the midnight of January 30. The Committee members today went to the women's market to discuss about the Citizenship bill. The Committee is planning to hold a public meeting on February 1 to discuss the developments.
Education Minister Th Radheshyam said a team of political parties has left Imphal today to meet central leaders . A 14 member team representing various political parties except Congress, MPP, JDU and Left parties will meet central leaders and highlight the issues people of Manipur and north eastern states were apprehensive.
