Aurangabad,Maharashtra,May 30 : As many as 1,207 different types works were underway in Aurangabad district under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(NREGA), with 8,625 laborers present at the site, Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) Deputy Collector Varsharani Bhosale said. According to an official statement on Friday, out of the total number of workers, 6450 laborers were working on 828 Gram Panchayat level works.
She further said that the silk department has 259 works in progress and 1107 laborers working there. The forest department has 13 works in progress in which 414 laborers have got jobs. There were 329 laborers on 49 social forestry works. In addition, 129 laborers were working on six works of Irrigation Department of Zilla Parishad at various places in the district.
Most of the ongoing works were under the Gharkul scheme. 276 works of irrigation wells are in progress in the district. 259 works of silk department are in progress, she stated. She further said that due to this work 2206 laborers have got jobs in Vaijapur taluka, 1312 in Paithan followed by 1110 in Sillod, 1074 in Aurangabad taluka , 995 in Phulambri taluka, 938 in Gangapur taluka, 489 in Kannad taluka, 280 in Khultabad taluka and 221 in Soygaon taluka. The total number of registered laborers in the district is 10,51,966 and 4,83,963 families. Of these, 132,105 are active laborers (having worked at least one day in the last three years). The administration was contacting them and verifying whether there was a demand for work. Social distancing norms were followed during the works and the labourers were provided with masks to all labours and sanitisation, the statement added. (UNI)
