Thane, May 28 : As many as 393 COVID-19 cases, including two Corporators and an infant, were found in this district, a report quoting official data said on Thursday. A total of 40,000 suspect cases have been tested for the pandemic till now, it added. Seventeen patients succumbed to the contagion on Wednesday taking this district's death toll to 207.
Among the newly infected individuals found in the preceding day, the highest 156 are from Thane city, including two Corporators from the BJP and NCP. Both the Corporators faced ordeals in getting beds at hospitals for themselves, which became possible after much ado. Meanwhile, 79 persons, including the infant and three other children, were found to be positive in Navi Mumbai, the report mentioned. Now, the district has a total of 6,690 cases of which, the highest of 2,450 and 1,853 cases are in the limits of Thane and Navi Mumbai civic bodies, respectively. There are 882 and 577 infected individuals in the respective suburbs of Kalyan-Dombivli and Mira-Bhayandar, the report said.
The Thane Rural, Ulhasnagar and Badlapur civic councils have become a cause of concern with 304, 245 and 192 cases, respectively, it added. The power loom town of Bhiwandi has crossed the 100-mark with 102 cases while the suburb of Ambernath accounts for 85 patients. Of the total tally, 2,914 persons have been discharged after being cured hence the district currently has 3,569 active cases. The pandemic footprint is also widening in the distant Palghar district which has tallied 682 confirmed cases, out of which, 25 have succumbed. Most of the cases have been found in limits of the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation, report added. (UNI)
