Thane, May 26 : Shiv Sena MLA representing Ovala-Majiwada in Thane city Pratap Sarnaik sought a waiver of payment of school fees for six months for the students in the state. In a memorandum to the Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad, he has stated that during the lockdown period, many from Thane and surrounding areas had to go without salary.
Lakhs of people are facing a hard time and a precarious condition due to the unexpected situation. In the present circumstances, they are also not in a position to meet their day to day expenses. To add to the present woes, some of the schools have already started demanding fees from the parents for six months for their wards.
This is uncalled for and the students should be given a waiver of six months in their school fees, he pointed out and added that those residing in these belts were middle-class families. In some cases, the school also gives threats of action on the students if the fees are not paid in advance. He also said that he has been receiving several complaints of the schools demanding six months fees.
He wanted the minister to take a decision to wave the school fees for the six months close on the other decisions. In case this decision is not not taken and the schools insist on the fees for the first term then he declared that he would resort to agitation to press for the demands and in support of the parents. Meanwhile, Sarnaik has also written to the school management not to insist on the fees from the students. (UNI)
