Palghar, May 26 : The district police in two different raids seized banned tobacco-based products worth Rs 28.48 lakhs and arrested as many as seven persons, the police said. Palghar PRO said in one case the seized goods were concealed beneath the cloth bales being transported from Surat of Gujarat. The police also seized the two vehicles valued at Rs. 21,00,000 and the cloth bales worth Rs 13 lakhs. The total value of the seizure is of the order of Rs 62.46 lakhs the police said.

Police PRO said that the police at the Valiv police station and Kasa while patrolling the highway during lockdown, spotted the truck and tempo coming from Gujarat towards Mumbai. When the vehicles were stopped on suspicion and the police found the banned goods in the truck. In one of the vehicles, the stock was concealed beneath the cloth bales being brought from Surat of Gujarat, the police said.

While the Kasa police seized the truck at the Charoti toll naka, the Valiv police seized the goods near the Chinchoti bridge. The seized products include the banned tobacco-based product Ekka Premium, Vimal Paan Masala, RMD Paan Masala, and M Scented Tobacco. Offenses under various sections of the IPC and also the FDA Rules and regulations have been registered against the seven with the two police stations. The arrested were identified as Om Prakash Yadav, 28, Raju Yadav, 25, Gaurav Singhal, 32, Deepesh Bhai, 40, Kantilal Meena 29, Shoukath Pathan, 28 and Santosh, 36 the police said. (UNI)
