Thane, May 22 : Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Dada Bhuse has earmarked 2020 as Agricultural Productivity Year while stating that the Maha Vikas Aghadi(MVA) government is chalking out a roadmap for benefitting the farmers as they battle COVID-19 woes. His remarks came during a meet held at the Collectorate here to review the issues for the Kharif season starting from June. As the details of the meet surfaced on Friday, it was learnt that the MVA is drafting an agrarian plan as it aims for bountiful produce this year.
Attended by Collector Rajesh Narvekar, Zilla Parishad President Deepali Patil and CEO Hiralal Sonawane, the meet also underscored that the farmers should be encouraged to do organic farming, considering the lessons learnt from the Corona crisis. To fulfil the objective of celebrating 2020 as Agricultural Productivity Year, Minister Bhuse said that the MVA is making efforts to provide fertilizers, seeds and crop loans directly to the farmers. He further said that special guidance should be provided on storage, transportation and processing of produce so as to make farmers financially viable.
The Minister directed the concerned officials to make sure that owing to the existing healthcare problem and resultant lockdown, the farmers don't fall short of fertilizers and seeds. He asked Collector Narvekar to coordinate with the banks and ensure that no beneficiary is deprived of crop loans. He assured that the issues raised by the farmers' representatives during the meet will be duly addressed. (UNI)
