Pune, May 22 : Cornering the Maha Vikas Aghadi government over COVID-19 mishandling, senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Friday alleged that indecisiveness and strategic errors of the Uddhav Thackeray government worsened the situation.
He asserted that Uddhav Thackeray is over-dependent on bureaucracy since he is scared of taking initiatives and that led to situations going out of control. His scathing remarks came as he along with other senior party leaders, Vinod Tawde and Mangal Prabhat Lodha, agitated outside the party office in Mumbai.
This protest was part of the BJP's statewide agitation 'Maharashtra Bachao' as the saffron party avers that the ruling dispensation has "failed" in deftly handling the Corona crisis, owing to which the State now has 30 per cent of cases out of India's tally. The cities of Pune, Mumbai and Aurangabad witnessed similar agitations where partymen were seen holding black placards while adhering to social distancing.
Mr Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, demanded that the CM must announce a Rs 50,000 crore package for farmers, labourers and workers of unorganised sector.
He said that the infection is spreading in the cities of Mumbai and Pune but the government is incapable of stopping it. There is a shortage of ambulance services and patients are dying on roads. There is no food in quarantine centres and beds in hospitals to admit patients. He added that no beds are being given to patients in government-run hospitals and private hospitals are charging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 lakh daily. Poor and commoners are not able to go to hospital. The government should acquire private hospitals. (UNI)
