236 new COVID-19 cases identified in Thane

Thane, May 16: With identification of a record number of 236 COVID-19 positive cases in Thane on Friday, the overall count of infected patients in the district swelled to 3,139. With addition of 83 fresh cases today, the tally of the COVID-19 cases in the city reached to 996. Among the new cases was a girl (aged 2 years) while at least three people were above age of 70, it was stated.

Meanwhile, six more patients died due to the pandemic, taking the toll in Thane city to 48, said a civic official. With addition of 74 fresh cases in Navi Mumbai, the number of positive patients in the city has surged to 1,048 including 23 deaths. With confirmation of 33 new cases in Kalyan-Dombivili civic limits today, the tally of COVID-19 patients has reached 424 including 9 deaths.

With addition of five cases in the Mira-Bhayander civic limits today, the number of infected patients has moved to 291 with as many as 8 deaths reported till night. The civic body-wise break-up of positive cases was as such Thane-996, Kalyan-Dombivili-424, MiraBhayander-291, Navi Mumbai-1,048, Ulhasnagar-94, Bhiwandi-38, Ambernath-32, Badlapur-79 and Thane Rural-137. While in adjoining Palghar district, total 328 positive cases were reported till date including 15 deaths. Of the total cases, the maximum of 278 patients came from the Vasai-Virar limits, including 13 deaths. (UNI)
