Thane, May 13 : Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde has directed all the civic bodies in this district to take extreme caution while discharging persons cured of the COVID-19.

His directive comes as a number of the infected individuals continue to surge rapidly leaving the administration worried. Mr Shinde, also Thane Guardian Minister, stated that the discharge must be given when it is firmly sure that the individual has recovered from the contagious disease. He affirmed that the preventive measure becomes more crucial as several pandemic patients have been traced from the congested areas.

To avoid lapses which will result in further spread of the disease, he further said, it must be precisely checked that the about-to-be discharged person does not have any potential symptoms of the contagion. Even if there is slightest doubt, the person must be tested for the COVID-19 prior to discharge. In regard to the recent directive by the Health Department, which states that the recovered patients can be discharged without the final test, Minister Shinde asserted that this cannot be allied for Thane district as it grapples with mounting cases.
