Mumbai, May 13: Amidst growing concerns about the spread of Covid-19 among prison inmates, the Maharashtra government has decided to release around 17,000 prisoners from different jails in the state for time being, said Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Tuesday .
He said that 125 prisoners in Arthur Road Jail have already been infected by Covid-19. In such a situation to avoid further spread of infectious disease among other prisoners in jails, the state government had decided to release around 17.000 prisoners from different jails to their homes for time being, the minister pointed. The state government had already released 5,000 undertrial prisoners, Mr Deshmukh added. (UNI)
