After 12 days, NCP council member held for verbal assault on woman officer

Agency News

Sangli, May 10 : Khanderao Jadhav, the NCP member of the Islampur Muncipal Council, was arrested on Sunday from the neighbouring Kolhapur district after being on the run for the past 12 days.

He had been on the run after a local court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the case in which he allegedly abused and intimidated the woman Muncipal Chief Officer Pradnya Pawar after she ordered police action against Khanderao for illegally transporting liquor. On April 28, another council member Amit Oswal complained to officer Pradnya that Khanderao was smuggling alcohol by concealing it in a garbage truck. The officer then ordered police to take action against Khanderao. When Khanderao got to know about the officer's directions to police, he stormed into her office and abused her and threatened her with grave consequences.

Consequently, the officer filed a police complaint and the local court rejected Khanderao's bail plea considering his inappropriate behaviour as a serious offense. This led to Khanderao absconding after filing another bail plea at the Bombay High Court. He was finally located at Amba village in Shahuwadi tehsil of Kolhapur, where he was arrested and brought back. (UNI)
