On the intervening night of April 16-17, an armed mob of around 500 people lynched two sadhus and one driver. Chikne Maharaj Kalpavrukshagiri (70), Sushil GiriMaharaj, (35) and Nilesh Telgade (30) were killed by an unruly mob suspecting them to be criminals. The victims were on their way to Gujarat when the incident occurred upon reaching the Gadchinchle village within the limits of the Kasa Police Station in Dahanu.

The gruesome episode has gathered much political steam as the Leaders of Opposition, Devendra Fadnavis and Pravin Darekar, have not only condemned the killings but also expressed concern for law and order situation in the State. Terming the incident as inhumane, former CM Fadnavis demanded a probe into it, as the victims were assaulted in front of police, and added that the culprits should be punished sternly. Echoing the same feelings as of his peer Fadnavis, Mr Darekar averred that the Home Minister Anil Deshmukh should immediately tender resignation taking the moral responsibility of the incident.
