Covid cases breach 3,000-mark in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Apr 16: With 165 more people testing positive for novel coronavirus in Maharashtra in past 24 hours, the state tally crossed 3,000-mark on Thursday, keeping it the worst-affected across the country.

Till Thursday, Maharashtra registered 3,081 cases and 187 fatalities, state health department said. Among the fresh cases, maximum 107 were reported from Mumbai city, followed by 19 from Pune and 13 from Thane. Eleven fresh cases were reported from Nagpur, four each from Pimpri-Chinchwad (Pune) and Malegaon (Nashik), two each from Navi Mumbai and Vasai-Virar (Palghar), and one each from Ahmednagar, Chandrapur and Panvel (Raigad).

Across Maharashtra, Mumbai is worst-affected with as many as 987 Covid cases. The first Covid case in Maharashtra was detected on March 9 when a couple from Pune tested positive. Meanwhile, police have arrested a total of 11 persons including a journalist with regard to the crowding of migrants at Bandra railway station on Tuesday. (UNI)
