Nagpur, Apr 14: A 56-year-old man was mauled to death by a tiger at Pench Tiger Reserve here when he along with his wife went to the reserve for collecting flowers, Forest Department said here on Tuesday.
The mishap occurred on Monday, when the couple from Ghatpendhari village in west Pench range went deep into the reserve for collecting "mahua" flowers. In the blink of an eye, the tiger attacked the man and dragged him away while his wife stood stunned. "The victim had gone to collect mahua flowers with his wife in the Pench reserve and tiger often mistake the crouching humans for four-legged prey," the forest department said.
"This seems to be a chance encounter as the villagers had ventured deep into the forest and there are no other related cases in this area, which is being constantly monitored," it added. A search operation was launched and the victim's body recovered. (UNI)
