Kolhapur, Apr 11: Two persons, including a woman relative of the Nizamuddin congregation returnee, on Saturday tested COVID-19 positive at Uchat village in Shahuwadi tehsil of this district.
In an immediate preventive measure, the family of the congregation returnee as well as others who came in his contact have been rushed to Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Hospital for getting them tested for the COVID-19. Meanwhile, vigorous contact tracing is still underway. After coming to know about the worrying news, the locals living in nearby 11 villages have voluntarily concealed themselves in their houses whereas the police have barricaded specific points hence restricting entry into these places.
Simultaneously, the Block Development Officer Anil Waghmare and other officials held talks with the members of Uchat gram panchayat. On April 9, the 30-year-old male congregation returnee tested positive for the pandemic while being kept in the institutional quarantine in Panhala tehsil. On return, he stayed at a religious place in Udgaon of Shirol tehsil, and subsequently proceeded to Malkapur town.
On March 18, he travelled to his native in Shahuwadi tehsil, nearly three km away from Malkapur. According to Health Department sources, around 106 people from Shahuwadi and Shirol tehsils came in his contact. Among them, 48 persons fall into high risk group and have been hospitalised. In further enforcement measures, a 3 km area in the radius of the returnee's house has been declared as containment zones. A door-to-door checking of 26,593 people in the area has been done, informed the authorities. (UNI)
