Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Mar 10 : AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel on Monday urged the Election Commission to postpone upcoming election to Aurangabad Municipal Corporation in view of Coronavirus scare and demanded to appoint an administrator for interim period.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Jaleel said that with AMC election round the corner amidst the threat of possible infection by Coronavirus, this election should be postponed to avoid the spread of virus and to maintain the health of people. In such a situation, an administrator should be appointed to run the administration, he said.

He alleged that people of the city are still deprived of basic facilities like health, education and water among others. He announced that upcoming Tabling I-Ijtema of the Muslim community this month would be postponed after discussion with organisers. The AIMIM MP welcomed the suggestion to rename the Chikalthana airport here after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj but expressed his reservation to renaming of the city after the same Maratha king.

Talking about proposed memorials of late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and BJP mass leader late Gopinath Munde in city, Mr Jaleel said that the people who have become politically heavyweight in the name of these two leaders should construct the memorials with their own money instead of at government’s expense and warned that he would challenge in the court of law any tenders called for construction of these memorials.
