Thane, Mar 10 : A 27-year-old man was awarded seven-year Rigorous Imprisonment(RI) in 2017 abduction and rape case of a teenage girl, stated an order copy here on Tuesday. The convict has been identified as Sandeep Umap, an auto-rickshaw driver by profession.

In the submission before the Court, the Additional Public Prosecutor(APP) Vijay Munde stated that on December 12 of 2017, the 16-year-old victim set out for coaching classes in the late evening. Sometime later, the victim phoned her parents and said that she was going out, and asked them not to search her.

When the girl went incommunicado, the parents approached the police, who tracked down the accused and victim in Ahmednagar district, the hometown of Sandeep. It came to the fore that the accused raped the girl after taking her to his native on the pretext of marriage, the APP told. District Judge H M Patwardhan observed that the prosecution has successfully proved all the charges beyond reasonable doubts against the accused.
