COVID-19 reaches Pune, five cases in 24 hrs

Pune, Mar 10 : Three more people in Pune on Tuesday tested positive of the deadly coronavirus, taking the total infected cases to five in the state of Maharashtra. "A total of 5 patient's have tested positive of coronavirus", District Collector Naval Kishore told UNI. Earlier in the day, a couple was the first in the state to test positive for the virus.

The three new cases, had a contact with the couple, who traveled to Dubai last month. The three new patients include couple's daughter, the driver of the cab in which the family had traveled from the Mumbai airport to Pune and a co-passenger in the flight. The couple had returned from Dubai on March 1 and till March 6, showed no symptoms. However, on March 8, they approached the authorities after one of them started experiencing mild symptoms, officials said.

Subsequently their samples were sent for test and the reports last night, said the Collector. After arriving from from Dubai on March 1, the couple took an Ola taxi and came to Pune. A team comprising officials of Pune Municipal Corporation has been formed to trace people who might have contracted the virus from these two patients. (UNI)
