Mumbai, Mar 3 : Maharashtra OBC Welfare Minister Vijay Wadettiwar on Tuesday clarified that the recruitment drive for the Maratha community in government jobs will be undertaken after the Supreme Court's verdict on the matter. The clarification from Mr Wadettiwar came while replying to a question raised by the BJP MLC Bhai Girkar in the Legislative Council.
"We are waiting for the Supreme Court's verdict on issuing joining orders to the Maratha candidates. We need to wait for the final verdict to be out. The verdict is expected to be out soon," the Minister said. Several Maratha youths have been staging sit-in agitations at the Azad Maidan here for their appointments to 56 government posts. In this regard, MLC Girkar raised the query. On November 29, 2018, the State Legislature passed a bill granting 16 per cent reservation in education and government jobs to the Maratha community under the Socially and Educationally Backward Category.
