Thane, Feb 14: A renowned builder and a government official are among five arrested for allegedly purchasing 80 acres of land worth crores in a mala fide manner, police said here on Friday.
Briefing about the crime, Navi Mumbai DCP Ashok Dudhe stated, "A total of five persons, including builder Bupendra Shah and a serving village Talathi from Latur, have been arrested so far in the crime."
DCP Dudhe said the five conspired to purchase the land in Navi Mumbai's Nhava Sheva region where the Jawaharlal Nehru Port is located.
In their ploy, the accused fabricated documents in the name of a farmer, and even put up a fake farmer for the crime.
The web portal created by the accused Bupendra states that he is the founder of the company, Bhoomi Raj, and holds nearly 15 projects in Navi Mumbai.
"The accused fabricated all the documents with the help of some government servants, including the arrested Talathi," he mentioned.
Further probe is underway to expose this mega racket, police said, adding that the builder has been remanded into police custody till February 15. (UNI)
