Thane, Jan 20 : A 28-year-old rickshaw driver was arrested on the alleged charges of attacking a woman with swords, police said on Monday.

The accused Sonu Naresh Anil Gangawane has been booked under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 504 (intentional insult) of the IPC and sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act. The victim said in a complaint that she stays at Powai Chowk area of the Ulhasnagar township with her married daughter and her two children. Her daughter had separated from her husband for the last ten years.

The alleged accused used to persist her to come and stay with him to which she refused. He used to come to the house of the victim and repeat the demand and abuse the mother and her daughter. On Sunday noon, when the complainant and her daughter along with a couple of women from the locality were in the verandah of the house, the accused arrived there with a sword in his hand and upon seeing this the complainant asked her daughter to rush into the house.

The accused demanded to know where the daughter of the complainant was and when the latter refused to reveal details, he attacked her with the sword. She is being treated at the hospital, police said. UNI
