Kolhapur, Jan 11: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana (SSS) president Raju Shetty on Saturday averred that the people have the right to know the truth about the irrigation scam.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Shetty reasoned that a whopping corpus was spent on irrigation schemes still the improvements in the irrigation sector do not commensurate with the crores of rupees spent.
"It's the right of the people to know what specifically happened in the irrigation scam," he said, adding that the truth behind it must come out.
He connected the lack of sprinkling schemes to the rising suicides of farmers in the State.
Discussing about the recently-announced loan waiver scheme, he asserted that certain criterias need to be altered so that maximum number of farmers get benefitted.
"If some criteria are changed, the government would require about Rs 31,000 crore for waiving farm loans," he said. (UNI)
