Palghar, Jan 10: A murder accused, who had escaped from the sub-jail at Kasa ten years ago, was arrested by a joint team of Anti-Terrorist Squad and Anti Naxalite Squad on Friday.
The accused, Naresh Guroda, then aged 29, of Wada Khadkona of Farrar Pada in the district, had brutally killed his relative Barkya Kolha (25) on October 31, 2010, for staying at his in-laws house, police said. Then in 2010, an offence under sections 302, 504, and 506 of Indian Penal Code was registered against Guroda. He was lodged in judicial custody at the Dahanu Fort sub-jail as an undertrial.
On the night of March 26, 2011, Guroda, along with five other cell mates, who were arrested in a case of dacoity, had escaped from the lock-up by breaking the grills. The police then arrested the five within a week after the incident, however, Guroda was untraceable as the police did not have his photo.
After his escape, police had registered an offence under section 224 read with 34 of the IPC against him. Acting on a tip-off, a police team laid a trap at the Dugad Phata and nabbed him this afternoon at around 2pm. He has since been handed over to the Dahanu police, who are carrying out further probe into the crime, sources added. (UNI)
