Mumbai, Oct 31 : Shiv Sena senior leader Eknath Shinde was unanimously elected as the party's legislative leader in the Maharashtra assembly here on Thursday.
A former cabinet minister,Mr Shinde's name was proposed by Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray at the party meet held at the Shiv Sena Bhawan.
While Mr Shinde was elected as the party's legislative leader, Sena leader Sunil Prabhu was elected as the chief whip.
The development comes after Aaditya, the family's first entrant to enter the state assembly, reportedly told party workers that he does not want to be a part of the government now.
Senior leaders from the party, including Uddhav Thackeray, agreed and unanimously elected Mr Shinde to be the party's legislative leader in the Maharashtra assembly. According to sources, a delegation of Sena MLAs comprising of Aditya Thackeray, Eknath Shinde, Diwakar Raote, Subhash Desai and all newly-elected MLAs will meet with Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Thursday evening.
On Wednesday, the BJP and NCP elected Devendar Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar as their legislative leaders, respectively. (UNI)
