Thane, Oct 31: The Economic Offences Wing (EoW), which has taken over the Goodwin Jewellers fraud probe, on Thursday launched a massive manhunt for the jeweller brothers who allegedly duped several customers to the tune of crores of rupees during Diwali, police said.
PI Shankar Chindarkar of the EOW said upon getting several complaints at several police stations in and around Thane since last week, the house search of the duo at Dombivili was carried out on Wednesday, but the officials did not find anything incriminating there.
''Our priority is to get hold of the duo to take the case forward to a logical conclusion,'' the official said.
Meanwhile, as informed by a number of customers earlier, the staff of the outlets in Ambernath, Dombivili, Thane and Vasai were directed to clear the stock in the outlets so that minimum stock is left behind.
In one such case, when one of the lady investors had gone to the shop on October 22 to get the returns of her investments in the form of cash or jewelry, she was shocked to find the shop almost empty. On questioning, she did not get any satisfactory reply. The person at the counter asked her to return after the festival.
Immediately after that, the shops started pulling down the shutters one by one and displayed a common notice stating that the shop will remain closed for two days and some of them are still closed and some are sealed by the police following the hundreds of complaints by the cheated customers who had invested their life time earnings and savings.
