Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Oct 29 : Jayakwadi dam released flooded water of 35125 cusecs per second in the downstream of river Godavari following the return of heavy rains in the upstream dams catchment areas in Nashik district, official sources said here on Tuesday.
According to them, the sluice gates of the dam were raised up to two feet on Monday and 35125 cusecs of water was released per second in the downstream, including hydro units of 1500 cusecs outflow in the basin of the river. The sources revealed that the gates were opened on October 24 in view of the continuous inflow from the upstream dams.
Jayakwadi dam has a capacity of 102 TMC and supplies water to Aurangabad, Jalna, three industrial estates, around 250 villages and about 1.85 lakh hectare irrigation lands in four districts of Marathwada region.
The District administration had already issued alerts in all the villages situated around bay of river and warned them not to venture near the river. (UNI)
