Parbhani, Oct 25 : The 2019 Assembly polls ended with surprising results, declared on Thursday, as the Opposition wrested more seats than predicted in the opinion and exit polls.

The level of surprise rose further in this district when the BJP ally, Rashtriya Samaj Paksh (RSP) jailed nominee Ratnakar Gutte won in the Gangakhed seat by a margin of 18,000 votes. Mr Gutte, allegedly involved in a multi-crore loan fraud, is presently lodged in the district jail here. Defying the directions of the BJP-Shiv Sena, Mr Gutte filed his nomination papers from the jail against Shiv Sena's Vishal Kadam.

His ignorance towards parent parties became more prominent as RSP chief Mahadev Jankar supported him.

Losing in the 2014 polls, this time Mr Gutte's campaigning was handled by his son-in-law Raja Phad. The legal wrath of Mr Gutte is attributed to the complaint by the Nationalist Congress Party legislator Madhusudan Kendre.

According to Mr Kendre, the Gangakhed seat winner Gutte took multi crore loan in the name of farmers during his tenure as the Chairman of a sugar factory.(UNI)
