Aurangabad, Oct 8: Campaigning for the October 21 Assembly polls in Marathwada region was launched on Tuesday, the auspicious occasion of Dussehra festival.
As many as 676 candidates are in the fray from the 46 segments of the region. The alliance of BJP-SS-RPI-SSS-RSP and Congress-NCP Aghadi with like-minded parties, including SP, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna, Peasants Workers Party. Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) contesting on its own, MNS, AIMIM, BSP, are also contesting the elections.
This time AAP has also decided to contest some of the state Assembly seats in the region. Five major parties-- BJP, SS, Congress, NCP and MNS-- are organising major rallies to be headed by their party's prominent leaders, including Prime minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Devendra Fadanvis, Sharad Pawar, Raj Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray, Aditya Thackeray, Adv Prakash Ambedkar, Asaduddin Owaisi, Balasaheb Thorat and possibility of Rahul Gandhi in the region's eight districts and allegations and counter-allegations were seen during the campaigning period.
The BJP has decided to hold at least nine to ten election rallies in the state of Mr Modi and 18 of Mr Shah, the sources said. Meanwhile, in the NCP camp, party supremo Sharad Pawar has already toured the region and addressed several rallies in most districts of Marathwada recently against the backdrop of numbers of stalwarts left the parties. He also attacked Mr Modi on several issues, including anti-farmer decisions in his speeches.(UNI)
