Aurangabad, Oct 8 : A total of 676 candidates are in the fray for the October 21 assembly elections in Marathwada for 46 Assembly constituencies after several candidates, including rebels, withdrew their nominations on Monday.
According to the data collected from all the respective returning official sources, among those who withdrew their nominations on the last day include 193 candidates from Nanded District, 87 from Beed District, 75 from Aurangabad, 54 from Jalna, 41 from Latur, 32 from Osmanabad, 28 from Parbhani and 21 from Hingoli district. A total of 1,448 candidates had filed their papers from the region till the last date of filing of nominations, of which, the forms of 1,207 had been declared valid after scrutiny.
After withdrawal of nominations on Monday, 134 candidates are in the fray. Nine candidates are from Nanded's 9 assembly seats, 133 candidates remain from Aurangabad's 9 assembly seats; 115 candidates from Beed's 6 seats, 79 each candidates for Latur's six seat and Jalna's Five seat, 53 candidates from Parbhani's four seats, 50 candidates for Osmanabad's four seats and 33 candidates from Hingoli's 3 assembly seats.
Around 1.5 crore voters will use their franchise on October 21 to elect 46 assembly seats in the region. However, across the state, a total of 1,504 total candidates have withdrawn their papers out of 4,743 candidates and now 3,237 are in fray for total 288 assembly seats, said election commission sources last night in Mumbai.
