Beed (Maharashtra), Sep 30 : The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Monday suffered a jolt, when Namita Mundada resigned from the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Women and Child Welfare Minister Pankaja Munde-Palve at Parli here.
Interestingly, Ms Mundada was already declared official candidate of NCP from Kaij constituency for the Assembly polls by NCP chief Sharad Pawar during his recent Marathwada tour. According to BJP sources, Ms Mundada will contest from Kaij Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket in the upcoming election.
She had contested the 2014 Assembly elections on NCP ticket against BJP candidate Sangita Thombare of BJP and lost.
Ms Mundada is the daughter-in-law of late Vimal Mundada, a minister in BJP-SS alliance government in 1995. He later joined NCP following differences with late Gopinath Munde and went on to become a minister in Congress-NCP-led state government.(UNI)
