Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 3: Expelled Congress MLA Abdul Sattar on Monday officially joined the Shiv Sena in presence of Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai.
Aurangabad Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde was also present at the event held at Thackeray's Matoshree residence. Mr Sattar, who was Sillod MLA as well as Aurangabad Congress president, not only quit party but also resigned as legislator as he was denied 2019 Lok Sabha ticket.
Later, he was expelled from the Congress owing to his "anti-party" activities as he reportedly campaigned against Congress' Subhash Zambad in the Lok Sabha polls.
His meeting with the BJP's higher leadership, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan and Union Minister Raosaheb Danve, were seen as overtures to join the BJP.
In a recent episode, Mr Sattar defiantly climbed the vehicle-turned-chariot of CM Fadnavis,so as to welcome him during the latter's electoral tour in Sillod. However, BJP's Sillod leadership vehemently opposed Mr Sattar's entry into the party, reports suggest.
Commenting on his joining of the Shiv Sena, he said though Shiv Sena was in power still they are fighting for the cause of farmers unlike Congress. "Hence, I have decided to join the Shiv Sena and I will accept any responsibility the party entrusts me," he asserted. (UNI)
