Army called in for rescue in flood-hit Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Aug 7 : As many as 200 members of Army, Navy and National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) teams have reached on Wednesday morning in the district to tackle the current flood situation.

Deputy collector Sanjay Shinde, heading the disaster management said, teams arrived here with two aircrafts and a total of 16 boats, at Chikhali, Ambewadi, Shirol area where the flood water of Panchanganga river surrounding from all directions.
Thousands of villagers have been stranded since last three to four days in the locality.
A team has shifted more than fifty thousand people from 204 villages so far, while over 5,000 people have been stranded in Chikhali village as they have no option for shifting at safe place.

Meanwhile, District Collector Daulat Desai has appealed the affected people to cooperate with Army and Navy personnel.Thousands of people from many places in the district have been shifted to safer places, following their homes submerged by the flooding water.
