Binoy Kodiyeri gives blood samples for DNA test

CPIM politburo member and party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's son Binoy Kodiyeri on Tuesday gave samples of his blood for DNA test at JJ Hospital in Byculla, Mumbai. He has been accused of raping a former dance bar girl in Dubai. The test is for ascertaining his paternity as he is said to have had a child out of this relationship.

Bombay High Court had last week said the test result should be submitted in two weeks. Oshiwara police, which filed an FIR against Binoy changed its decision to collect the sample at Dr RN Cooper General Hospital in Juhu to JJ Hospital, reportedly to avoid media attention. Police from Oshiwara station went with Binoy to the hospital.

Earlier, Binoy had moved the High Court demanding quashing of the FIR. He did this after getting anticipatory bail from the sessions court. Any decision by the High Court on the petition would depend on the DNA test result.

The woman had accused Binoy of raping her on the promise marriage and that he was the father of her child. The relationship started in 2008 from the dance bar in Dubai where Binoy used to frequent. Two years later, he shifted the mother and child to Mumbai and used to send money regularly till 2015.

In 2018, she learnt that he was already married and demanded Rs 5 crore for the child's upkeep. Binoy, along with his mother, tried to settle the matter unsuccessfully and later allegedly threatened her. Then, she filed a complaint at Oshiwara police station that leading to the FIR.

Mumbai police had come to Kerala to arrest Binoy who went into hiding and later moved the Dindoshi sessions court for anticipatory bail.

On Monday, Binoy presented himself at the police station as per the bail conditions and despite his opposition he had to give the blood samples on Tuesday on the High Court directions.
