Nine students killed in road accident near Pune

Pune, Jul 20 : Nine students who were returning home from an excursion were killed when a passenger vehicle in which they were traveling was hit by a truck at Loni Kalbhor Areas of Pune-Solapur National Highway near Kadamvak Vasti village, during the early hours on Saturday.

Police who rushed to the spot informed that the deceased were college students from Yavat village near Pune and they were returning home after an excursion to Raigadh. The accident occurred when the passenger vehicle hit the road divider and jumped over the other side of the highway and was hit by a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction.

Police said the impact was so severe that nine students who were in age group of 19- 23 years were killed on the spot.The bodies of the deceased have been sent to government run Sassoon Hospital for post mortem and matter is being investigated, police said.

The dead were identified as Akshay Waiker, Vishal Yadav, Nikhil Chandrakanth, Noor Mohammad Daya, Parvez Attar, Shubham Bhise, Akshay Chandrakanth, Datta Yadav and Zuber Ajit Mulani. Pune rural police have taken up the case. (UNI)
