Villagers set afire tempo carrying cattle for slaughter

Thane, Jul 4: An irate mob of villagers set on fire a tempo after disembarking the cattle it was carrying for slaughtering, sources said here on Thursday.

The villagers of Dahigaon of Shahapur stopped the tempo near Baghecha Pada towards Khardi, at 2100 hrs on Tuesday.

The villagers apprehended the tempo en route and pulled down the half-a-dozen cattle and later set the tempo on fire. Senior Police Inspector of the Shapur police station Gansham Aadhav confirmed the incident to this correspondent.

They also caught hold of the driver of the tempo and beat him up and handed him over to the Khardi police under Shahapur police station.

The Sahapur police station SHO told this correspondent on Thursday a total of two offences had been registered in this connection so far and further probe and attempt to arrest the accused was underway.

According to police, a total of 18 villagers have been booked and offences under sections 353,332,143,147,148,149,341, and 636 of the IPC registered against them. No no arrest is made in this connection so far.

With regard to the transportation of the cattle another offence is registered in which a total of six accused are named and of them two are arrested. The offences under sections 379 rw 34 and those relating to the transporting of cattle illegally and cruelty to an animal and also under the MV Act has been registered the police said. (UNI)
