Pune, Jul 2: At least six labourers, including two women, were killed when the compound wall of the famous Singhbad college campus collapsed on their shanties early Tuesday morning here due to heavy rains.
Three others were seriously injured in the incident.According to police, the workers -- four from Chhattisgarh and two from Maharashtra -- lived in a tin hutment adjoining the wall.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Mamta Patel (22), Jitulal Patel (50), Radhelal Patel (25), Jitu Ravate (24), Prahlad Ravate (30) and another 45-year-old woman, with Patel as surname.
All injured persons were admitted to the private hospital in the city, police said.
The tragedy took place barely three days after a similar incident in Kondhwa area of the city in which 15 labourers lost their lives. (UNI)
