Agency News

Mumbai, Jun 1: A meeting of top leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), chaired by party president Sharad Pawar, was held on Saturday here to look into shortcomings behind the massive defeat in the Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra.Various issues were discussed in the meeting and a strategy for state Assembly elections that are due later this year was also discussed, sources said.

It may be noted that Pawar on Friday met Congress presidentRahul Gandhi in Delhi and discussed not only about the upcomingpolls but also the drought situation in Maharashtra.

The two parties won just six of the 48 seats at stake in the state in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election -- four seats had gone to NCP and two to Congress.
