Maharashtra opts for digital means to plant 33 crore trees

Nashik, Jun 1: Maharashtra Forests Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Friday stressed on the importance of digital means so as to incorporate the citizens in the ambitious resolve of planting 33 crore trees across the state.

Speaking at the 16th State Level Senior Forest Officers Conference held at the Government Guest House here, the Minister said that digital means will prove crucial in spreading the objectives of several ongoing environment conservation schemes and increase participation of people in protecting the environment.

He further said that the forest officials should publish the work done by them so as to apprise the masses and added that the contribution of people is necessary for successful plantation of 33 crore trees. The Minister, who also holds the state portfolio of Finance and Planning, asked the Forest Department to implement ideas under the Jalyukt Shivar scheme for protecting animals and farms.

He sought the role of Green Army, created by the Forest Department, for dissemination of schemes-related information in public arena.In the event, eleven senior forest officials submitted the report for the plantation of 33 crore trees and the Minister launched an e-portal digitizing access to greenery information.
