Palghar, May 14 :The Local Crime Branch of the District Rural Police have arrested a murder accused who was on the run for about last 16 years.The alleged accused, Kamlesh Jain (57), a resident of Bhayander town in neighbouring Thane district, was arrested on Monday, police said here on Tuesday.
It was on October 25, 2003, local builder Rajesh Patange (42) was shot dead at point blank range by the sharp shooters at Tulinj Road in Nalla Sopara while he was standing and having discussion with his friend at around 1345 hours.The motive behind the killing was said to be the dispute between the victim and the accused persons over a plot of land at Mira Road.
An offence under sections 302, 307, 120B, 465, 468, 471 and 474 of Indian Penal Code and also sections 25(1-B)(A), 27 of the Arms Act was registered with the Nalla Sopara police station against the unknown accused. There were total 14 acccused involved in the murder, police said and informed that they had taken the help of the gangsters to kill the victim.
Of them, ten accused were arrested earlier. However, of the remaining four, one was shot dead in an encounter with the Mumbai police while three others were absconding and therefore wanted by the police. Acting on a tip off that one of the accused Jain was to come to Borivili railway station yesterday, a police team laid a trap and nabbed him.Police are now on the lookout of other two wanted accused, sources added.
