Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Apr 4: Mahamandeleswar 1008 Shantigiri Maharaj of Ellora, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Aurangabad as independent, on Wednesday asserted that he will not contest coming LS poll from Aurangabad and appealed to the public to vote for candidates who are honest, clean and loyal to the nation.
Clarifying his stand in a crowded news conference here this evening, Maharaj said that he has undertaken a movement on behalf of his 'Jay Babaji Bhakt Pariwar for Ladha Rashtrahitacha Sankalp Shuddh Rajkarnacha' (struggle for national interest and commitment for pure politics). Informing his followers from seven LS seats namely Aurangabad, Jalna, Shirdi, Jalgaon, Nashik, Dindori and Dhule, he made it clear that Babaji will not contest the election.
He further said that the Indian democracy being one of the biggest in the world needs patriotic candidates and asked his followers to vote in large numbers in this election, do not accept money for voting and vote for the right candidates. It may be recalled that Shantigiri Maharaj, who had garnered 1.35 lakh votes in the 2009 LS poll, was defeated by Shiv Sena's Chandrakant Khaire. (UNI)
