Thane, Apr 2 : A 40-year-old woman auto rickshaw driver was sent into police custody till April 8 on the alleged charge of running prostitution racket near Talao Pali lake here,informed the Anti Human Trafficking Cell(AHTC).
According to the AHTC senior Police Inspector Sanjay Patil,the accused Sangeeta Batole,a widow and a mother of two shielded her prostitution racket by working as auto rickshaw driver.
"No one would easily suspect women drivers as the female passengers feel safe to commute in their rickshaws," said Mr Patil.
Informing about the accused modus operandi,Mr Patil further said at first she would befriend women passengers and later lure them with lucrative job offers.
"The accused Sangeeta targeted women who were weak on financial front and later push them into flesh trade," mentioned Mr Patil.
"Once the victims were trapped into her lure,the accused would send them to at least three to four lodges daily, and would halve the money share,"added Mr Patil.
He stated that two victims aged between 28-30 years have been rescued from her clutches.
The Naupada Police Station have registered a case against the accused under relevant IPC sections along with other provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
Further investigation to unravel timeline of the prostitution racket is underway. (UNI)
