Banned gutkha products worth over Rs 51 lakh seized

Palghar, Mar 31: In two different raids, the Vasai and Talasari districts police have arrested three persons and seized banned gutkha products worth over Rs 51.84 lakh.

Police PRO Hemant Kumar Katkar said in an official statement that these seizures were made on the night of Friday during the patrolling and also raids following a tip off.

In the first instance, the police at Talasari police station were conducting a surprise check at the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway at about 2330 hrs and spotted the tempo coming towards Mumbai from Ahmedabad. The tempo was intercepted and on suspicion at the Acchad check post, the police found a stock of gutkha products worth around Rs 41.83 lakh. Two persons Rajiv Yadav and Sonu Yadav were arrested.

In another incident at Dongarpada of Kaman in Vasai, acting on a tip off that banned gutka has been stored in a godown behind a hotel the team of police personnel of the district police LCB wing raided the godown and seized the gutka worth Rs 10 lakh.

Police has arrested the owner of the godown identified as Tribuvan Mourya. (UNI)
