Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Feb 26 : Two former directors of the Aurangabad district central co-operative bank (DCC) were arrested on Tuesday for abetment of suicide of veteran Congress leader and chairman of the Aurangabad district central co-operative (DCC) bank Suresh Patil (78), who allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at his residence here on Monday.
They have been identified as Advocates Sadashiv Gaike and Nana Patil. In a suicide note which was found in Patil's bedroom, the deceased blamed them for his suicide.
He said he was caught in a legal battle and took their help to solve his case. Police sources said the arrested suspects have been lodged in Pundaliknagar police station. A case was registered against both of them.
Suresh Patil was father of former MLA Nitin Patil, head of the DCC bank for over two decades. After meeting his visitors, around 10.30 am on Monday, Patil went to the court for hearing. He returned home at noon and went to his bedroom saying he was not feeling well. When Patil did not come out from his bedroom for almost a couple of hours, his family members got worried and informed the police. Later, the police broke open the door and found Patil lying.
He was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The preliminary report concludes that poisoning was the reason for his death. Last rites will be performed at his hometown Nagad in Kannad tehsil Tuesday evening, family sources said. UNI
