Thane, Feb 21: A 16-year-old boy has been sent to remand home on the alleged charge of stealing a total of 8 motorbikes valuing up to Rs 6.50 lakh from the suburbs of Mumbai, informed the Thane City Police on Thursday.
In an official statement, the police said that during recent past,a spike was registered in the theft cases of two-wheelers. Owing to the increasing crime, the Police Stations as per jurisdiction, stepped up the patrolling of the public spaces, where there was high probability of occurance of such crimes,said the statement.
During the vigil,the Kalwa Police caught hold of a person in possession of one such stolen vehicle. The suspect further divulged the detail that he purchased the two-wheeler from the 16-year-old boy and later the police nabbed the minor accused.
The boy confessed to stealing 3 motorbikes from Kalwa town, 5 motorbikes from Mulund suburb, and one auto-rickshaw from the city. The motive of the accused behind committing the thefts was to make quick money to support his spendthrift lifestyle, informed the statement. (UNI)
