Palghar, Dec 30: The Indian Coast Guard(ICG) apprehended a total of 14 people reportedly Bangladeshi natives who were allegedly trying to intrude into the Panju island of Vasai,informed the police.
The Coast Guard Public Relations Officer(PRO) Abhinandan Maitra said on December 29, the Coast Guard Hovercraft patrolling the maritime area near the coastal town of Uttan sighted six suspicious sand laden boats bearing no identification marks.
The ICG personnel signalled the boats to stop ,however, of the people on board four boats alighted at the shore and vanished into the dense mangroves forest nearby.
The two boats which were intercepted were ferrying 14 illegal immigrants on board,which was revealed later after the checking of documents,added the PRO.
As per jurisdiction,the Vasai Police has been given custody of the nabbed people along with the task of tracing the other people who gave a slip to the maritime patrolling personnel.
Further investigation into the case is underway. (UNI)
