Maratha reservation: Maharashtra Bandh today

Aurangabad, (Maharashtra), Aug 8: Maharashtra State Maratha Kranthi Morcha (MKM) coordination committee-called 10-hour 'Maharashtra Bandh' has begun from 8 am on Thursday in demand for reservation for Maratha's in higher education and government jobs.

The decision was taken in state coordination committee meeting held here which was attended by the 32 state districts MKM coordinators.Addressing the press conference on Wednesday, MKM said the bandh will be observed peacefully and all the emergency services including state transport, medical, schools are exempted.The bandh will begin from 8 am to 6pm , the MKM informed.

All the district coordinators has been directed to handle the bandh situation peacefully and the MKM has appealed to the youth to not to take law in their hands or take any extreme steps like committing suicide, they said.

The MKM gave an ultimatum to the state government that cases lodged during the ongoing agitation against all the Maratha activists should be withdrawn by the August 10 otherwise we will intensify our stir by observing chain hunger strike in each taluka level from August 15 onwards Maratha community will starts one time ‘Annatyag’(not taking food) agitation.

So far 28 persons have been committed suicides across the state during the ongoing Maratha agitation and MKM sought that the state government should provide Rs 50 lakh to each family members of deceased and a job in state government department.

In view of committing suicides by youth of community they said that, they will take out three-days 'Samupadeshan' yatra (counseling) across the region from August 10 onwards in which Psychologist doctors and Bharudkar (singer) will aware the youth and others to stay away from taking such steps like suicides, they added.

On Tuesday, the state government submitted affidavit in Bombay High Court during the hearing of reservation case in which they stated that backward commission will submit its final reports on November 15 to the court and directed to the petitioner to aware the youths do not take any extreme steps like committing suicides and remain away from violence during their stir.

Meanwhile, in view of bandh call given by the MKM across the state the police department has tightened security across the states with the help CRPF,SRPF,QRT and local police teams to avoid any untoward incidents during the bandh, said sources.Meawhile Amol Jadhav, co-ordinator of MKM said that shut down will not be effective in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.

As per one of the coordination member of MKM, Vinod Patil clarified that each district coordinatior of MKM has been directed to take decision on Bandh as per local condition.UNI
